Wii Wii Wii all the way home

 src=

Much of my time the past few weeks has been devoted to getting as good as my husband at guitar hero. Probably much more time than I should ever admit to. I have come to the realization that I am not going to be filling in for Slash at any point in my future. So being of the competitive nature that I am, I had to search out another niche. I found it at 6:30 this morning: wii fit! We stopped to pick up an extra wii controller last night and were told that the local Wally World had received a shipment that they would be putting out overnight. Long story--- they didn't have the combo for the "lock box" and wouldn't be putting them out till the day manager arrived. So for the 2nd time in 2 weeks I found myself waiting in line at an unheard of hour (for summer vacation), this time in the hopes of working off some of the aforementioned peach ice cream.

I love this thing! I am the best hula hooper in the world (619 spins!) and am gaining on the ski jump title... much to the dismay of the husband. I wasn't sure how strenuous a workout with a video game would be, but I was sweating after about 30 minutes of the various programs. I'm not sure I like the running circuit, but yoga is an experience. Here's the fit fun we had tonight :)

The hope is Will can do these things without the risk of further bodily harm this summer. He took his marker to school today and proudly recited all the names on his cast. He even had mamaw sign on behalf of the dog :)

You wanna know what's exciting?!

It's 10:30 on Saturday night and I get a call from my mom. Not a completely unusual occurrence, but then I hear the "your son needs to talk to you". Anytime he's "your son" I know I need to prepare myself for something...

Will gets on the phone and all I hear in the background is my mom prompting him to begin his story with "We were at Target..." (At this point a thousand different scenarios are running through my head. He's been in Louisiana since Memorial Day and has had a relatively physically un-endangering stay with his grandparents. But that changed tonight.) Will decided to go with a different opening for the story: "Hey mommy, you wanna know something exciting?! I broke my arm." This is met with much laughter from everyone on his end.
Me: "You broke your arm? What happened?
Will:" Me and papaw were running..." More laughter from his end as papaw denies his involvement.
Me: "Maybe I should talk to your mamaw again"

So, with 6 days left at his grandparents the accident free streak has ended. Luckily it's his left arm, so we won't have to worry about eating or writing. He's pretty excited about his "picture" they gave him of his break. I'm sure that will be the first thing he shares with his third grade class in the fall. Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need to do... too tired too think anymore.

update 7/6: Had a cast put on today... apparently bright purple is the only color the Dr. had available. He's just excited he can still swim while wearing it!

Family-less for the Fourth

 src=
I have to admit the past 3 weeks have been very restful. But there is only so much guitar hero and HGTV a girl can handle. The fourth of July is upon me, and I have no family :( I watched fireworks with some work friends at the lake tonight, but it wasn't the same as Will trying to write his name in sparklers, or the crazy chicken spitting fire "eggs" at our chairs. Ahh, those pyrotechnic displays in our front yard...

I have plans to crash a neighbor families game night tomorrow. They said they would adopt me for the weekend. I am all about some game night!

I just have to survive till Sunday when I get my husband back for 6 whole days!! Woohoo!!
Have a wonderful Independence Day!

Millions of Peaches.... Day 2 & 3

Saturday started with the parade. I did consider doing the 5k, but I'm still in PT for my knee and my therapist wasn't exactly overjoyed with that idea, so I applaud all those who sweated it out in the early morning heat. The only sweating I did came from just siting in the sun waiting for the parade to begin. I must say I was disappointed in the turn out... the crowd didn't seem as large as it has in the past. We however, were there in full force. Here's our parade crew:

The boys scored big time with the candy and cups... though mom took a now or later to the eye.

After the parade we meandered our way through the arts and crafts booths. Such cute stuff. I could have easily spent my paycheck in there, but managed to keep it under control for my new floors! There was plenty of jams & jellies, dips & salsa and ice cream to be found. I loved the cupcake stuff by Randi Anderson. She has such cute things...I will definitely be ordering some gifts from her!

We pushed our way through the sweaty mass of people and slipped a way for a late Father's Day surprise: bloodhounds! Will loved the puppies, unfortunately they can't come home yet. This is Maggie: src=

And her brother Woodrow:

Saturday night was more music in the park. Asleep at the Wheel is Texas swing at its best. Such an entertaining group to watch, they played a little bit of everything. We really enjoyed them. Even Will put away his DS for the evening... well for a little while :)

Sunday found us once again, back at the park, this time for the pet show. Marty and I used to enter our pets when we were little, so I thought it would be a good chance for Will to show off his favorite dog, Roxie. We entered her in outstanding dog and in the best costume (statue of liberty). He was quite upset that she didn't win anything. His final comment: "What's wrong with them? Don't these people like freedom?"

src=Today is my mom's birthday, but we took her to dinner Sunday night so I could celebrate with her. I love you mom! Hope you had a fabulous birthday! Here's almost all of the family at Chili's:

Peach Fest Day 1

 src=
Always a fun time going home for the Peach Festival...and this year started earlier than usual! I got up at 7:00 to get in line at the Tech dairy for the once a year phenomenon that is peach ice cream. And no, I was not the first in line.

 src=

So funny ice cream story--- the signs said there was a limit of 6 1/2 gallons per person. I'm standing there thinking wow, 61/2 gallons is a lot, but they only make it once a year, so I'll get the limit. Now supposedly the word "containers" was on the sign, meaning six 1/2 gallon containers, but I never saw that. I grabbed a crate of ice cream (8 containers) and started stacking more on. This lady that had arrived much later than me runs up and yells that I'm taking more than allowed. This starts a whole conversation about exactly what the sign says, the whole while people are coming in and grabbing ice cream. I did not stand in line for an hour and a half to watch peach ice cream sell out so I grabbed my containers wrapped in a beach towel and hightailed it away from this woman. They do not mess around during the Peach Festival!!

The rest of the day was spent perusing the sidewalk sales, visiting old friends and attending concert in the park. Local bands playing fun covers, and the weather actually cooled down (although the rain did have everyone worried for a bit). Ran into old friends and visited with others in town for the festivities until late in the night when mom and I decided to search for the peach treasure in the dark. It would have been a humorous event, if the stupid thing hadn't actually been found there the next day!

I'll be humming it all day....

I always though my life would be really cool with a soundtrack that played behind me all day long. Now I know what I can start each morning with.

Your Theme Song is Beautiful Day by U2

"Sky falls, you feel like
It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away"

You see the beauty in life, especially in ordinary everyday moments.
And if you're feeling down, even that seems a little beautiful too.

Sunday Funday

I thing I'm finally back on Texas time. Saw Love Guru today. Classic Mike Myers...some truly hilarious moments and an ok plot. It was nice to see Justin Timberlake totally make fun of himself as well. After the movie I went to hang out with some friends and had a great chicken burrito dinner. So nice to have adult conversation over dinner! Came home to measure the living room for this week's project: laminate floors. I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow to try to track down the laminate I want and to make sure they have enough. So excited about this! I'm also excited about the Peach festival this weekend. I'll be driving in sometime Thursday and staying through the weekend. I can taste that peach ice cream now...

Oh yeah, ummm I decided I was going to do something a little crazy since school was out and I don't have to fit the "teacher mold". I now have several hot pink strands in my hair, but you can only see it in a ponytail :) I'll post a picture when I find a good one of the back of my head.
