On the Road again...

This blog is officially on summer vacation.
 id=
I am super excited about my trip to Seattle to visit Columbia Lily & be crafty in cooler temps.  Colleen is joining us too, so between our blogs I'm sure we'll have the fun well documented!

Also on the agenda... Vegas with the Mr and Dallas with the folks.  What are you doing this summer?

Six Word Saturday

Taking care of my birthday list.

Thanks to a crafty break from painting, some help from the hubs, and an action packed upcoming vacation, I should knock off several more items on my list of 31.

#4 Make a piece of jewelry- scrabble tiles done! id=
#5 paint a room in my house- hallways are done, but if they don't count as a room, I'm still working on the loft and kitchen.
#11 learn to applique-- I'm sure it's not the way my grandma did it, but it works for me. id=
#24 Go to an Astros game- heading to the juice box on Tuesday!
#30 Go to Seattle- flight leaves Wednesday!
#27 plan a girl's weekend-- does it count if your husband comes along for the flight?

Ahhh the joys of summer vacation! Play along with six word Saturday:

Ch-Ch-Changes

Summer seems to bring out the home improvement in me. Which is why the Mr and I have undertaken the ginormous task of painting the interior of our house. every. single. wall. Not a mind-blowing task, but it started out with just painting the kitchen, then blossomed into, why don't we paint all the walls that are still "builder white"? So, as I take a break from day 3 of painting to let the world know I am still very much alive, I thought I'd share the #1 thing I've learned about painting.
Don't paint at the same time as your spouse. This will result in numerous arguments about technique/errant paint/touch ups. Pick a job for each of you. The only reason we're still standing is that I tape and edge and then the Mr fills in with the roller.

Six Word Saturday

My brain is on summer vacation.

I finished my conference and can now throw the alarm clock in the closet for another 2.5 months. This is the stuff that gets me through the rest of the year, sleeping till 10:00, chilaxing by the pool with a little summer reading and an adult beverage. Any suggestions for my reading list?

Has it only been a week

since the school bells rang for the final time? I've been a little busy and haven't really been able to enjoy the teacher perks of sleeping in all summer. What have I been up to?
  • saying goodbye to my current class of 8th graders at their end of year celebration. They look so different all dressed up, and I love any excuse to wear the LBD!

  • Chaperoning said 8th graders on the annual more flags more fun class trip. Did I mention this was the day after school let out, and we had to load buses by 6 A.M.?

  • Dropping the young un off for a fun filled month with his grandparents. One request please; return him in the same condition you received him. Nothing exciting. Thanks!

  • Attending a pre-AP conference that has changed. my. life. Seriously, who knew Pat Boone recorded "Enter Sandman"?

  • Hiding out from a tornado in the bathroom at the ballpark... With the 2,000 other fans. Such a romantic date night with the Mr, no?

  • Completely missing my bloggy birthday on Sunday. This shall be remedied!!

I can't fight this feeling anymore

src= How am I spending my first full week of vacation? By taking a class. That requires me to wake up before I would be getting up for a normal school day. Especially after a long night of watching who knows what on hulu. Seriously, Alec Baldwin is right, it's turning my brain into a gelatinous mess. But I just can't stop watching. I can't. I don't have the willpower to turn it off until I've watched an entire season.
But I digress. I'm taking a class for the next 4 days. One of those 8-4 classes that start to get really tedious after lunch. Even on a full night's sleep.

Swapping it up

I've been following Mamarazzi's blog for quite awhile now and have been totally envious of all the swaps she does. When I saw the post for a red, white & blue swap, I knew this was my chance to join the fun. I can't wait to join the party!

There are still a few spots remaining if you want to join the fun!

Last Minute gift idea

I'll admit the last day of school snuck up on me. I have so many checklists to complete as a teacher that the the parent in me was completely blind-sided. Thank goodness for Target & Family Fun magazine! Flipping through the latest issue I found a super simple truffle recipe (soy milk + choc chips= delicious!) and some "too cute to be easy" pencil shaped containers. The only downside was the enormous mess that ensued...

The complete directions can be found in the June/July issue, but it's always fun to document the process: src=

Once the truffles & holders were finished up, I whipped up some super easy gifts for my co-teachers. Target had some super cute reusable bags in the one spot that were begging for a crafty hook-up. src=Looking through my plethora of inspiration blogs, I found the perfect one at 320* Sycamore src=

*I didn't read the directions on the dark t-shirt transfers and printed the first batch out backwards* src=

Superfabulous teacher gifts in minutes? done!
