Six Word Saturday

I'm just a little bit terrified.

For the past 4 years I taught US History, a subject I am completely and totally passionate about. It was a focus of study in college and I watch the History Channel till the wee hours of the morning. I can totally dork out with the constitution and election years make me giddy. But last week I made the decision to switch to Language Arts, a subject I've previously taught, and am (in my opinion) equally as passionate about. I am excited, yet at the same time, feeling so overwhelmed. I have 9 days to prep for the next school year and I don't even know where to start... ok so I know where to start, but I have yet to meet someone who can actually translate TEKS into usable language :)

So there's my big confession for Saturday. It's the little thought that's bouncing around behind my smiley face and "I know exactly what I'm doing" facade. 8th graders can be awfully intimidating.

Language arts was always my favorite class but I don't appear to have retained anything i learned.

I remember my classmates being horrible to teaches when I was in 8th and 9th grade. I hope they are nice to you!

How exciting! Kind of stepping out of the comfort zone is something I always have trouble with. Good luck and hope the kids go easy on ya! :o)

Have a wonderful weekend! :o)

Ah, but the switch will help you stay fresh and challenged - -which in turn will make you a better teacher. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that is part of why you made the move.

I hope you have a great school year!

If you’re passionate,
no matter what you’re teaching,
the kids will get it.

That's big! I like a tiny bit of U.S. history and geography but the history channel puts.me.to.sleep. Good luck with language arts!!!

As you don't commit a huge fashion blunder you can lie and fake it with eighth graders.

Hopefully you'll get a bunch of students just like me - I loved, loved, LOVED English in 8th grade. I do remember appreciating being given a choice between books rather than being told "you will read a, b and c". It made me feel more mature and more in control. Just a thought.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll be brilliant!

Happy 6WS!

hmmm....any reason for the switch? (as I resist the temptation to shout "traitor!!" at the computer screen..)

Yeahhh... I got nothin'.

I'm sure you're going to be absolutely A-OK. My favourite teachers were always my English and History profs.

Good luck!
