I want candy...

At some point last week I got an e-mail from my son's homeroom mom about teacher appreciation week. My district does their own teacher appreciation without the seal of approval from Hallmark. I knew it was coming up and last night I had a panic attack because I couldn't find the e-mail anywhere and knew I signed up to treat the class teacher and music teacher. Smashed Peas and Carrots to the rescue! I had most of the stuff on hand to make these super delicious (and definitely not low cal) twix bars.

They weren't as hard to make as I thought (and I can make some huge errors in food prep) and they made great sweet treats for the teachers--- I even took them to my campus for some teacher lounge love!

In other news, I turn 32 in a few short hours and have no idea what my plans are... dinner? drinks? crafty time? making a new things to do list? Any suggestions for celebrating 30 the 3rd time?

A fantastic deal on a cake stand and cover ($5 at Ross!) to add a little spring to the entry.

It's always a good time for mod podge, especially when the weather cooperates and I can open the windows! (Those are Easter eggs for my apothecary jar, and a wall art piece for a baby gift)
And ever since I saw this project on Just A Girl, I knew I would have to try it. Just in time for teacher appreciation week...

A little craftiness always helps me slow down and regain my sanity. Now I just have to finish these up before next week's trip to NYC.

Welcome Walk 08

Tonight was our school district's "Welcome Walk"; an annual event that the elementary kids look forward to and the middle school teachers would love to get out of. Because we live out of district, we usually wait for Will's teacher at my school, one block away. I try to do something fun to start off the school year, so this year we made cookie pops. Oreo cookies+ craft sticks+dipping chocolate= teacher gifts! I put a little note with it that said "looking forward to a sweet year!" I'm pretty sure that it won't be the only gift she gets tonight.





The elementary students love greeting their teachers and in some of the neighborhoods even make banners and sit out in lawn chairs to await their arrival. Not so much for the middle school students. And who can blame them. I saw many a disappointed face tonight when I introduced myself as an 8th grade teacher. I won't even see these kids for 2 years... why am I welcoming them? Don't misunderstand, I think it's a great idea and a way to welcome the kids to their first day of middle school, I just think it should be the teachers they will have, not some strange lady sweating from running down the street in her black shirt and talking way too fast because she wants to get back in the A/C before she melts on the front stoop.
